Measuring Reciprocating Motion Velocity with Laser Displacement Sensors

Measure the velocity of reciprocating motion using a laser displacement sensor (voltage output type).

By using a laser sensor, non-contact measurement can be achieved even in confined or narrow spaces.

The speedometer features an adjustable trigger level from 0 to 9.00V in 10mV increments, making it compatible with a wide range of sensors.

Overview

This application uses a laser displacement sensor corresponding to the reciprocating stroke range and a speedometer/tachometer (such as the SPD-4801).
The sensor outputs a voltage signal proportional to the distance to the target object (e.g., 0V at 100mm, 10V at 600mm).
The measuring instrument calculates the velocity by treating one complete cycle of the input waveform generated by the reciprocating motion as a single pulse.
