In hydropower generation, when power generation is interrupted, the turbine or generator may spin out of control, damaging rotating parts and seals.
To avoid this, control measures such as closing the valves in the waterway must be taken as soon as possible after power generation is shut down.
Overview
The rotation of a water wheel or other device is detected by a gear sensor, which outputs a frequency pulse signal corresponding to the rotation speed.
The signal is input to a speed regulator through a signal converter to open and close valves in the waterway.
What can be done in this application
Gear sensor
- Capable of detecting from 0 Hz, the sensor can measure the motion of a rotating object such as a turbine when it starts or stops in detail.
- The sensor detection surface is a hermetically sealed one-piece metal case with a highly reliable structure.
- The cable pull-out part is made by our unique Conical Press™ and can be used in environments where water or oil adheres to the cable.
Signal Converter
- High accuracy from ultra-low speed to high speed with unique Periomatic™ calculation. Fast response to sudden speed fluctuations of the turbine.
- Analog output selectable from 0-10V, 0(1)-5V, 4-20mA, etc. (internal program switching or specified when ordering).
Full-scale value can be set according to the governor (speed regulator).
- Alarm output can be optionally selected for the SPD series. An alarm signal can be output when the specified rotation speed is exceeded.
